SafetyBATTbox XL-lite – Maximum safety with minimum weight

Strict safety requirements apply to the transport of lithium batteries – including prototypes and new types of battery that have not yet been brought to market. The SafetyBATTbox XL-lite has been developed specifically for this purpose. With its extremely low weight, it ensures outstanding logistical efficiency without compromising on safety.

The transport crate meets all legal requirements and is ideal for prototypes, new battery cells and damaged batteries. It is therefore the optimal solution for businesses seeking secure packaging with reduced handling and transport costs.

Features and benefits

The SafetyBATTbox XL-lite has been specially developed for the safe transport of lithium batteries classified as ‘green’ or ‘yellow’. These are usually new batteries, prototypes or cells with minor damage. In accordance with the ADR regulations, special provisions 377, 376 and 310 therefore apply, in line with packaging requirements LP903, LP904 and LP905.

Batteries with critical defects – so-called ‘red’ batteries – must not be transported in this box. With UN certification in accordance with UN 38.3 and approval in accordance with ADR and BAM, the box meets all legal and technical requirements for the transport of lithium batteries. Extensive testing confirms the high level of safety of the design.

XL-lite is made from robust plastic and is therefore considerably lighter than metal-lined packaging for dangerous goods. With a tare weight of just 140 kg, it significantly reduces transport costs – particularly for air freight or weight-based logistics models. Its compact external dimensions of 2960 × 1879 × 814 mm* provide sufficient space for several battery units with a maximum permitted dangerous goods mass of up to 900 kg. At the same time, the container itself is more cost-effective, as it is specifically designed for the transport of non-critical batteries and does not require advanced filtration technology.

* The actual internal dimensions are 2670 x 1570 x 550 mm.

The design of the box – through its choice of materials, shape and mechanical stability – ensures that the risk of thermal runaway during transport is extremely low. Heat build-up can be specifically limited thanks to the insulated casing. With a spacious interior and an integrated strap system for securely fastening the batteries, the SafetyBATTbox XL-lite is ideal for efficient, safe and cost-effective shipping.

The benefits at a glance:

  • Approved in accordance with UN 38.3, ADR and BAM
  • Lightweight thanks to its plastic construction
  • Ample internal space for multiple batteries
  • Straps for securing the load
  • An economical alternative to traditional wooden crates
  • After just 10 uses, this purchase is a good investment compared to wooden crates
  • Rent rather than buy, in conjunction with our European logistics infrastructure

Systematic classification of lithium batteries by condition

A clear classification is essential for the safe handling of lithium batteries. In battery logistics, a distinction is made between green, yellow and red batteries:

  • Green batteries are new, tested and undamaged energy storage units that are in perfect condition and ready for use. This also includes prototypes from the development phase that have not yet been officially released onto the market.
  • Yellow batteries have minor damage or defects, but are not considered critical. They can be transported safely provided certain conditions are met – for example, the use of approved transport packaging such as the SafetyBATTbox XL-lite.
  • Red batteries that are considered to be seriously damaged or a fire hazard must not be transported in the SafetyBATTbox XL-lite. In such cases, we offer our tried-and-tested SafetyBATTbox models M-2, L-2, XL 2.2 or XL 2.2+.

We offer a range of boxes for storing lithium batteries, so you can store all your batteries safely.

Reliable logistics processes thanks to suitable packaging solutions

Even for lithium batteries that are not classified as critical, safety measures during transport are absolutely essential. Even new or only slightly damaged batteries pose a potential hazard – for example, due to incorrect handling, mechanical stress or external influences during transport. Therefore, legislation requires that suitable and approved packaging systems be used for this type of battery as well.

The SafetyBATTbox XL-lite reliably meets these requirements and offers a balanced combination of protective functionality and cost-effectiveness. It enables the shipment of non-critical batteries in accordance with the regulations without the extensive protective measures that would be required for damaged or flammable batteries.

XL-lite is typically used for:

  • Shipping of battery prototypes, e.g. for testing at development centres or for trial shipments to OEMs
  • Transport of new cells in the developmental environment
  • Temporary storage of slightly damaged but transportable batteries
  • Logistics processes in the early stages of production in the automotive industry

With the SafetyBATTbox XL-lite, we at LogBATT offer a tailored solution for businesses requiring safe, UN-approved packaging for lithium batteries in a non-critical state – efficient, lightweight and practical.

And: Thanks to our logistics solutions, which cover the whole of Europe, you can get started straight away, even without buying the boxes – you can simply hire them if you need to.
